Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
As the lead science teacher, finding new and meaningful ways to teach science is a constant challenge. I want my students to develop the same love of science as I did as a young child. However, because of the lack of science resources, I am unable to achieve this goal.
My school is in an urban setting where a large number of students have special needs and are non-native speakers.
Because of this, I find that grabbing their interest is best done through hand-on activities. Students get excited when I enter the classroom. Some even cheer! "What are we doing today???"
My Project
Teaching about ecosystems is part of the 5th grade science curriculum. I want to make science more exciting than just reading a book. With the owl pellets, students will learn about food chains through the dissection of each pellet. As they pick through the feathers and bones, among other things, they will gain an understanding of the owl's eating habits. Most will even be able to reconstruct an entire animal since owls don't breakdown their food. Dissecting owl pellets provides students with memorable hands-on experience.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Through your donations my students will have a better understanding of the food chain. You will have inspired curiosity and a general love of science.
