This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom is striving to become college ready. However, it is very difficult to learn biology without visual representation of how real and interactive biology is.
Our school is in rural Mississippi where our school district is on the rise!
Our classroom is learning that they control their own destiny. The big goal is to do this by growth on ACT scores, content mastery and responsible decision making inside and outside of the classroom. My students are eager to learn about how biology applies to their daily lives.
My Project
My students need an LCD projector in the classroom. Projectors enhance the visual learning of the class and add the component of video and audio examples. With this projector, biology will come alive to my students. There are not a lot of lab resources so much of the hands on learning will happen with visual representations or video demonstrations. With this projector we will be able to increase class time by making note-taking more efficient and allowing me to walk among the students instead of tied to the board. A projector will allow us to see demonstrations as a group instead of small groups working independently. More importantly, a project will help conserve what resources we have by limiting the amount of handouts that need to be copied.
Without this projector learning could still happen in the classroom.
However, with this projector learning will jump to a whole new level. Students will engage in note taking, real world applications will become more apparent, and students will be able to see that biology is an very important subject for their future.
