My Students
Science rules! At least that's what Bill Nye the Science guys says. However living in a small Midwest town it's so difficult to bring science to life for my students. The majority of my students have never left Indiana much less seen a desert or an ocean.
I teach 3rd grade in a small rural town in Indiana.
Our school currently has over 58% of the population on free or reduced lunch. This means that a majority of our students live in poverty and do not have access to things such as the Internet or the public library, and they do not have the luxury of taking a family trip to the zoo or museum.
My Project
Students today are very visual learners. They are used to playing video games & being entertained. Learning science in a boring traditional way will not work. My students need many hands on activities as well as things that are visually stimulating. Bill Nye the Science Guy teaches science in a very fun & entertaining way. My former students have LOVED watching these DVDs & have begged me to show them. I no longer have access to these videos for free. It would be extremely helpful to have a variety of Bill Nye DVDs to show my current & future students so that they too may learn to love science. When I ask former students about science they say, "Science Rules!"
Allowing my students to have access to these science DVDs will help them to learn concepts that otherwise would just be foreign to them.
Being able to see concepts come alive will make all the difference in the world.
