This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Our music classroom is equipped with music keyboards, and students practice playing the instruments individually using headphones. By the end of the school year, students are expected to play a few simple songs on a keyboard. The biggest challenge is that our headphones are not working.
My students in a keyboard classroom are kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd graders.
They like practicing pianos and listening to themselves playing. Our school budget is tight due to the budget cuts. Most of our students are coming from immigrant families who struggle to provide their kids with all what they need for every day. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide the new headphones for each student, so some of the kids take turns waiting when headphones are available for them to use. We are looking for any opportunity to equip our classroom with adequate technology, so students are able to use instructional time efficiently.
We need to replace 10 headphones in our classroom in order to provide each student with a working keyboard station. Students will be able to hear themselves playing while practicing their instruments. The headphones will be also used for our music listening station.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by letting students hear the sound they play on their instruments.
Listening is a very important skill for any subject in school. An instant audio feedback using headphones will let students to evaluate their playing skills and become better musicians.
