Our art class is a very exciting place where we try many different materials and projects! One thing the art students love to do is weaving and sewing. The requested looms and skeins of yarn would allow them to work independently as well as collaboratively on weaving projects.
Our school is a K-8 arts based public school.
Our classes are very diverse and we have fantastic teachers throughout the whole school. The students are able to take art, dance, music and theater as well as all their academic subjects. It is great to see them exploring so much and putting their creativity to use.
My Project
I will use these materials in multiple ways. I will use them to do fiber arts units with various classes. I teach this unit using 3 centers, weaving, quilting and soft sculpture. I also have morning art time for students who arrive early in the day and I use choice centers which include weaving.
When students are finished with their work for the day, the looms are available to them as an option. Currently the looms I am using are made out of cardboard. Although they learn the basics, they are limited in what they can make with them. The looms are always falling apart. As you can see there are many ways which these looms will be used by the students.
Having these looms and skeins of yarn will create a dynamic classroom as it will provide students with a new element to their unit.
It will also make my room have more options for the students to create independent work projects.
