We are a 99% free lunch school with 33% English as a Second Language(ESL), 50% current or former ESL and nearly 1/3 special needs students. We live in an impoverished community and can not rely on the community for financial support. Our students' education depends on your support.
We had a very basic weather station which we placed in a semi secure area of our garden. Though it was out of sight, the vandals found it and destroyed it, along with the spirit of some very amazing special needs students. Hands on learning keeps many of our more challenged students returning to school. They enjoy the responsibility of caring for a great deal of scientific equipment and learning how these instruments function. Quite frankly, it's the best learning tool we have. We would like to have a wireless weather station to place on our roof, off limits to any vandals, which will connect our students to eventually producing weather reports in a studio we hope to get operating this year. Your help is critical to this program.
This project will serve our students across the content areas: math, science, technology, literacy and social studies. It will build self-esteem and confidence for students who require a great deal more of one on one resources. Environmental science has proven a successful tool in managing difficult students and providing them with responsibility and skills that they will carry with them for a lifetime. We can't do this without you.
Many times society will look the other way for students who become difficult and prove too challenging to manage. We embrace these students and continue to try different teaching tools until we reach them. We encourage them to maintain attendance and we teach them with hands on learning. In this case, your support is critical to their learning. Please help!
