I've always dreamed of working with Kindergartners and envisioned what the perfect classroom would look like. When I was given this outstanding opportunity to work with these young learners I quickly realized that I was dreaming an almost impossible dream without the resources I needed to reach children and make a lasting impression in their young lives.

The classroom I inherited lacked a dramatic play area that would support their learning. There was a stove and kitchen but what about help with literacy and dramatic play? Manipulatives and social interaction are essential in kindergarten and without these key components the children in this NYC school will be at a disservice. Building the literacy skills that students need to succeed is catamount in these primary years. This is where the love of learning begins, this is where reading begins!

By building a puppet theater that increases literacy skills through reenactment, children will begin to make connections that would otherwise be stale and rote. The ability to act something out will build positivity and confidence amongst peers. The fact that we can tie in literacy through the recognition of initial consonants, vowels, and ending consonants will give resounding purpose and enthusiasm to the work.

Your help will ensure that the youngest students in our school have a positive and meaningful experience that they can carry with them for the remainder of their school years. While it may seem costly, there really is no replacement for a solid foundation in literacy and this project will support that through the creative play that 5 and 6 year olds need and desire. Let's make their first experience in our NY schools a strong and committed one when it comes to learning. Please help put our children first. I want to do all I can but I cannot do it alone. Please help fund our literacy puppet theater. Even if it is only a partial funding- you will bring my dream that much closer to a reality! Thank you in advance for your time and support.
