A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Students love to hear stories read aloud to them! I teach middle school English-Language learners. About 80% of our students receive free and reduced lunch as we are located in an urban area. Over 50% of the students at my school were born in another country and have come to the United States as refugees.
In addition to learning to read and write in English, my students must also learn to speak properly. Reading novels aloud models the proper language including intonation, grammar, and other aspects of oral language.
I need class literature sets of the novel so that each student can follow along as the novel is being read aloud. The novels I have selected deal with cross-cultural issues that many immigrants face such as arranged marriages, dowries, and conflict/resolution.
You will make it possible for my students to have access to high quality literature as well as gain insight into various cultures through rich literary experiences. They will learn English more quickly and grow as individuals by being exposed to the themes in these powerful novels.
