Datalicious!

My students need a classroom all-in-one color printer and 15 flash drives for saving data to participate in analyzing data.

I am a 7th grade math teacher who loves her job. I am employed in a rural, small, close knit community. My school is a high need school where 90% of my kids eat free or reduced lunch. At the ages of 12-13 in 7th grade, my students tend to need a high degree of motivation. Motivation has become a high priority in my classroom because of the high dropout rate in Mississippi. Most of my students have mentioned dropping out of school when they reach the legal age. Being able to supply a multifunctional printer and flash drives allows students to enjoy their experience in learning about data analysis. Black and white is dull; therefore, my students need the experience of seeing their best work collections in exciting colors.

The opportunity of giving my students something they will enjoy can help me motivate them to learn. Teaching at a low poverty school does not allow my students with many technological advantages. Most of our computers are at least 10 years old. Using old software requires a great deal of planning and collaboration. I have in the past allowed my students to use my personal laptop. I also have great teachers who work with me so I can allow them to use updated computers, but saving their data on my flash drives creates a barrier. When I teach data analysis, I really get my students involved. Using business resources from our community, future budgeting, and science projects allows them to learn a real-life experience. They use math functions in spreadsheets, and they are able to create charts and graphs. Data is mainly used for visual effects; therefore, it is disappointing when my students are not excited when their accomplishments with great pictures and color only show black and white when printed. It is also an obstacle when I have to save all my students data to my flash drive. Copying their work also allows them to show their work to their parents.

Having a classroom multifunctional, all-in-one printer will allow me to provide my students with a great experience in learning about data analysis. This provides a learning and hands on experience. Having 15 flash drives can allow my students to save their data in groups. I can reuse these flash drives because I can delete and save other things for the next year. My students will be able to print, copy, and scan information to help in their work of art in my classroom.

You can most definitely make it possible for my students to see their true colors. Your support can allow my students to get more involved in learning about data analysis. As a donor, my students can see that there is someone who cares for their learning experiences. Just giving them a small token of a multifunctional printer and flash drives can solve our problem. Your help can make our experience datalicious!
