My students attend school in an impoverished neighborhood where the needs are high and the services are few. In their community every day brings new challenges and yet every day they show up, ready to learn. They are a daily inspiration for me.
One of the biggest challenges we face is a lack of money for basic supplies. My students are avid note takers and they love practicing their math work at home, yet many of them lack the most basic of supplies like pencils to do their work with. While we do our best there are students in my class who simply can not maximize their potential because of a lack of supplies.
We need pencils so that the students can participate in class and do their individual work at home. With these materials the students will be able to focus on learning and not where their next pencil will come from.
Your help will change the lives of my students by making math a simple and fun everyday activity. Who knows, maybe the next great American mathematician will be formed in our school because of your contribution.
