Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Listen to the mustn't child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossible, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me anything can happen, child. Anything can be," Shel Silverstein wrote this poem and I agree. Anything can happen the moment we pick up a book.

My students are a wonderful bunch who are eager to learn and put forth great effort in class with the materials we currently have.

I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners which include primary grade levels. I work with students who have autism, students with specific learning disabilities, and speech-language impairments. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 90% of our students receive free or reduced priced lunch.

My Project

Great things are brewing in our classroom. Teaching my students the foundational skills is one of my favorite subjects. The dry erase board roll will help them write down their reading ideas. By having a variety of magazines, it will surely spark my students interest. The twelve month subscriptions for Justice League of America, Zoobies, Ranger Rick Jr., Zoobooks, National Geographic Kids, Chickadee, Ask!, Chirp, Highlights, and Thomas & Friends are the perfect combination for the reluctant reader to get them hooked on reading. They will read about super heroes by reading Justice League. Ask! magazine includes topics and themes that students have a natural curiosity about, such as the human body, Earth, animals, and nature. National Geo Kids contains a superb blend of photos, fun facts, and articles. Each Zoobie and Zoobooks issue is themed around a specific animal or group of animals, discussing habits and habitat.

Please help my students by contributing to a dry erase board roll and a variety of magazine subscriptions to encourage them to read.

With the help of resources and generous donors, my students will develop a love for reading and these worthwhile reading experiences will help my students become lifelong readers.
