Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance." Samuel Johnson
We succeed each day by accomplishing small steps daily. We are Champions because we DreamBig! Despite the challenges they face, my kids persevere through it all!
My students are very shy and tend to be reserved with authority figures.
They are 7th and 8th grade special needs students in a Severe Learning Disabled Class. My students are energetic and willing to learn. They aren't too willing to share yet. My kids need to expand their horizons outside of "CindiLand," as I refer to my classroom. It's the greatest place on earth, after Disney, of course.
My Project
My Lead Educator suggested that we get the students to interview new staff members and write articles about them to publish on the school website. They will also take the pictures that will go on the site. Exposing the students to adults outside of my classroom will prepare them for high school. Many of our students have been in the same school all of their lives and will experience a culture shock in high school.
In addition to the interviews, the students will use the tablets in their small learning communities to do research for the biographies they started to learn about last year.
This project will help my kids overcome their fears.
It will boost their self-confidence and their pride. It is my hope that this project will help my kids overcome their fears and shyness. I want to see them succeed not only at our middle school but in life.
