What student were you when the teacher called on one person to answer a question? The daydreamer? The active listener? The student who talked to others? If my students had whiteboards, they would all have to give an answer. Which means they all will have to participate .
My classroom consists of happy first graders.
We are at a low-income, public school where all the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Over 70% of our school consists of second language learners. This means that English is a second language for at least 70% of our students.
Although many of my first graders are just beginning to learn the English language, they are hard workers and do try their best in learning all they need to in first grade.
My Project
Being able to have personal whiteboards will allow all my students to give me answers and I can provide immediate feedback. This will allow the students who are struggling to be able to give me an answer and not be afraid to try even if they think their answer isn't correct. Having whiteboards will also keep my first graders attention during lessons and will allow all of them to participate at the same time.
By having a desktop whiteboard, I will be able to teach or reteach much easier in small groups. Teaching in small groups will allow me to work with each individual student and focus on their needs.
I believe it's important for all students to be actively engaged in all the lessons to truly learn.
They need to be active listeners and participants to grasp whatever concept I am teaching. Having whiteboards will allow my students to do so, thus making them more successful at learning. So when I say, "1, 2, 3 show me," the students can quickly show me their answers on their whiteboards and allow me to quickly asses.
