Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Can you imagine having to learn about rocks, fossils and minerals just by looking at pictures? It would not be the same as actually holding them in your hands. While learning about geology, it would greatly benefit the students to have actual rocks, minerals and fossils to identify.

Excitement fills the air each time students walk into my classroom.

It is because they are looking forward to a stimulating science lesson. I teach science labs to students from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade. My students are eager learners and I want to provide worthwhile lab experiences for them.

My Project

While working on a geology unit, I would like for my students to actually be able to hold and observe different types of rocks, minerals and fossils. The students will be able to identify the rocks and classify them as igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic. They will also be able to compare different fossil remains and learn how they were formed.

Completing this unit will provide students with the opportunity to experience first hand the different types of rocks, minerals and fossils that can be found on our wonderful planet.

Who knows? Maybe we will even inspire a future geologist!
