I teach 4th-6th grade students who are having reading difficulties. Our school is an inner-city magnet school with many students of color & in poverty.
My students are not able to read at grade level, and by 4th grade this is a dire situation! It is very difficult for students who are behind in reading to catch up once they have reached this age.
With cassette player support, my students can independently practice reading stories that are more difficult than they can read on their own. I can individualize instruction for each student by targeting their personal instructional reading level and they can practice on that level while I work with other students. They will be able to make progress more quickly and I will be able to work with more students at one time.
Your help will make my students feel confident again about reading because they will see their own progress!
