I teach fifth grade science and social studies a small rural school in eastern North Carolina.
My students are required to take a science end-of-grade test at the end of the year. One of the concepts on the test is forces and motion. Forces such as gravity, inertia, and momentum are difficult to teach students who have not yet developed abstract thinking skills. They need hands-on contact with these concepts.
The best way for them to understand the information that they will be tested on is for
them to use the materials I am requesting to build models. We will use the materials and videos to explore forces and motion in class.
Students will not only get to watch videos on the information, they will also construct model cars and pulleys to demonstrate motion and pushing and pulling forces. Students will love to use their creativity to invent and solve problems.
