Help Mrs. Jeansonne

Hold the presses! We are running out of ink! Our school publishes a monthly newsletter highlighting student achievement and school events. It includes a calendar of events to keep family, friends and community up to date on school happenings. Student-written articles highlight classroom activities, field trips, art activities, and fund raisers, plus cultural and sporting events. Photographs of the students from all grade levels add to the interest of the articles. We are a charter school that was created to meet the educational needs of students following the catastrophe that befell Louisiana in the fall of 2005. We serve grades Pre-Kindergarten through eight and have several Special Education classes. Most of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunches. All of our students were evacuated from their homes in 2005 and many witnessed the destruction of their homes and neighborhood. But our students are truly extraordinary and have done more than merely survive this trauma; they have thrived. Through hard work and diligence, they have overcome incredible obstacles. They have had the highest over-all standardized test scores in the district, and the second highest in the city. They have had champion football, basketball and cabbage ball teams. Plus we now have a marching band. This newsletter has highlighted and celebrated these milestones of our success and recovery and developed a sense of community and hope. The students and faculty look forward to the first of each month because they can get the latest scoop on the events in our school The newsletter is published on one 8.5" x 11" page (front and back) for the first nine months and on two 8.5" x 11" pages for the last month. Printing the newsletter in school is time consuming and expensive. Ideally we would like to have it printed out-of-house. With your help, our newsletter will not run out of ink and will continue to be published and chronicle our school’s progress and recovery.
