My project needs various supplies so that parents will be able to enjoy learning science as much as the students do during Science Family Night. These include assorted magnets, paper clips, eye droppers, plastic bags, pipe cleaners, marbles, tuning forks, metal feed pans, funnels, straws, rulers and more!

Greetings from rural North Carolina and my fifth grade inclusive classroom of 5th grade students in a Title I school.
My students struggle when they are at home trying to explain to their parents what they are doing in science. That is where your generosity can help to overcome this problem. We want a family science night in which the parents are directly involved in being scientists, predicting, hypothesizing, experimentation, and finding results - all the time jotting their work in a scientific notebook.
The greatest solution to this problem was to come up with the necessary experiments and tools that would allow the parents to work with their child and learn the methods of scientific research that the students are conducting during the school day. I WANT MY PARENTS TO BE INVOLVED. This will definitely involve them. The supplies that have been requested will fulfill the needs for 56 experiments which the parents will rotate participating with their child on an evening from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. in the Spring, 2008. Each parent/child team will complete five - seven experiments. The entire school will be invited to participate.
Some of the experiments that the parents and children will be doing are balloon race (motion), bird beaks (habitats), attractive bottles (force and Bernoulli's Principle), citrus sections (estimation), predict and tip (predictions and hypothesizing), balanced bodies (gravity), How did it get there (energy), Water Drops (molecules and predictions)Sound waves (vibrations, sound travel)Rim roll (mass). There are 29 experiments in all that they will be involved in. It should be a fantastically fun and educational night, thanks to you our donor.
Please help give my parents and their child this experience. When parents are directly connected to the school environment, children do better in school. You, as the potential donor, can empower these families with the experience of being scientists and connect them with what is going on in my classroom as well as the entire school.
I know that my students, parents, and myself would be eternally grateful for your donation.
