Part I: Benjamin Banneker Academic High School is the only public school that offers an International Baccalaureate Program along with other intensive courses. The students come from all over the District, including S.E., S.W., N.E., and N.W. These students travel here every morning rain or shine; this trek can sometimes include a daunting trip over an hour each way to school. The students of Banneker want and education and they demand it! After much persuasion by the students, Banneker has decided to offer Psychology as an elective for seniors. In a rigorous school, such as Banneker, these opportunities to take electives are highly sought for the few electives they are allotted. The class is already full with a waiting list, the excitement from the students and myself has pushed me to make sure this class is a success and is properly supplied with the textbooks needed. Since Psychology has never been offered at this school, we lack any textbooks. This puts our school in extreme danger of loosing this elective that the students have overwhelmingly supported and are looking forward too. This is where we need you! This program will be a success with textbooks for the school. As the teacher, I have already begun collecting older versions of the ?Invitation to Psychology? textbook. The project for this grant is simple, textbooks equal success. Without the textbooks the class will not be offered, with the textbooks the students will have an amazing opportunity to understand human behavior. You can help these motivated students, who have faced adversity and have still come out on top, to get textbooks and boost their preparation for the years to come in college! We need your help!
