Hello, and welcome to the wonderful world of Pre-K SCIENCE! As a Pre-K teacher, I try to instill a love for all living and nonliving things in my classroom. I help teach young minds the basics to create the foundation of learning. My students love to explore and experiment with EVERYTHING. These children love to watch things grow or change over time. Science is important to them because science is all around them. Pre-K students develop a love for living things and other science concepts during their first year of school.
My "little scientists" include 20 four and five year old "at-risk" students who all qualify for free/reduced lunch. The majority of the school was greatly impacted by Hurricane Katrina, and some students are still living in FEMA trailers at this time.
My classroom was completely flooded with over 3 feet of water during Hurricane Katrina. In an early childhood classroom, everything is below that level. Many of my materials have been replaced, but my students are still lacking science materials. Science materials are a vital part of a young child's life. These materials will help them to develop and grasp early science concepts and vocabulary, but they will also lead the students to appreciate life, health, and the environment.
I am asking for a variety of science materials to assist my youngsters with developing a love for science. I would love for these children to experience life with insect, animal, and vegetable habitats and life cycle puzzles. I would also like for them to learn about light and colors through the use of prisms, kaleidoscopes, and color paddles. In addition to these materials, I am requesting a talking microscope, magnet wands, and a classroom thermometer to teach other early scientist skills.
In conclusion, I would love to give my students more science experience inside the classroom. I believe that by creating a love for science, nature, and other science concepts, children learn to appreciate the world and objects around them. My "little scientists" love to explore and would greatly appreciate more science materials to help them become "BIG SCIENTISTS!" Thank you in advance for considering this proposal.
