My Students

Remember back when you needed to know how to spell a word and your teacher told you to look it up? Or you wanted to look up what a word meant? Well my students would love to do these things, but they currently don't have that opportunity.

My students are hard workers and never want to give up.

Our school is economically, socially, and ethnically diverse. We have over 90% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch. In my classroom, I have 23 students from all over the world. 5 different languages are spoken by my students and for many of them English is not their first language. They enjoy all subjects, but they especially love writing. Many of them have struggled hard to make it to 4th grade and I want them to have as much as they can.

My Project

These students will benefit greatly from obtaining these dictionaries. They will gain a better understanding of what different words means. Plus they will be able to practice their alphabetizing skills as they look up words they don't understand how to spell. Being able to use these dictionaries will greatly improve their writing skills too, as they will be able to spell words more efficiently and keep writing rather than getting stuck on one word and not writing anything else.

This project is important to me because I believe that students need to be able to spell words, locate the words in a dictionary, and know what they mean.

If funded it will make a great impact in my students writing and spelling life that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
