Kids need a rich vocabulary to help them learn to read. I teach 1st grade, the year when kids learn to read. My kids need materials to enhance their vocabulary so they can become better readers.
I teach 1st grade in rural Northern California.
I have 28 inquisitive 1st graders who come to school eager to learn. My students love to play, do art, and study science. Living in the state of California, my students have been dealt the short end of the stick. Funding for classrooms in California has been dramatically cut and it has filtered down to the students.
My Project
My students need a variety of materials like vocabulary games, stations, and listening centers to practice vocabulary. The materials will be used in centers so kids can master new vocabulary words. They will love the game format to help them learn. It is essential that my kids have the opportunity to expand their vocabulary to help give them a strong start in reading. My kids will use these materials to create lists, draw pictures of new vocabulary, practice antonyms and synonyms and study multiple meaning words.
By helping fund this project, you'll be putting materials into my students hands that will help them practice vocabulary in a fun way.
This will help them become better and stronger readers which will get them off to a wonderful start, academically.
