I teach art at an inner city high school which desperately needs after school activities that will engage and interest our students. Our children need a safe place to gather and enjoy themselves while doing something productive. Computer art is in demand and is always requested by my classes. Unfortunately, I am only able to do this with the advanced students. As an after-school activity of the Art Club, I would like to work with digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop as well as Paint Shop Pro to help students create unique art. Scanning images, transferring images from cameras and using Photoshop to enhance, digitize, and create original art is an exciting way to engage students and inspire them to pursue careers in the arts in college. During grade pick-up, the Art Club would have an exhibit of photos which could be purchased by parents and guests. Money would be used to purchase additional supplies and computer programs. Approximately 10-15 students would be able to participate in this after-school program. Computer art is an alternative way for children to achieve success and feel good about themselves, and I believe that all students including special populations will do well working with the cameras and these programs.
