My fourth grade students are extremely excited about science this year. I am so glad that I have the opportunity to open their eyes to "fun" in the classroom. My students were not eager to learn especially in the beginning. Many of my students are functioning on a second grade reading level, and are struggling with multiplication. This means that science has been placed on the back burner. However, this year I am trying to make a difference for these students who do not have much. Majority of the school is on free and reduced lunch, and out of 68 students only 17 bring back papers signed from parents regularly. These students have potential, but just need to be polished. **Just wanted to update, I may be moving to fifth with these same children next year. I would still be teaching science too! And also 75% of my students PASSED the CRCT (state testing) in science. Average results are less than 50%!
