  • Morning Tubs Filled with Fun

    Funded Aug 10, 2017

I received my materials for "Morning Tubs Filled With Fun" a couple months ago and the impact on my classroom was immediate! Every morning my students come in excited to start the day and choose a morning tub to work on with a partner.

So how do we use these tubs? Every morning the students come in and get unloaded and when they have completed the morning checklist, one of two kids gets to choose a tub. Then working cooperatively, students play, build, and create either independently or together. Students love that they have multiple choices to start their day. Many like working together while also having the option to work alone, even though they are sharing a tub.

My students are extremely into the Interlox building tiles and MagFormer magnetic tiles. Clearly I have some budding engineers! The children also like to letter cubes to create words that are long, competing to make the longest word! The Tinker Toys, Legos, and Train set are also a huge hit! What I really love about these is that the kids work together even if they're building something on their own. My students have all had the chance to work with each other with different activities.

Thank you again for your donation and kindness!”

    Mrs. Reed

  • Manipulating Math

    Funded Aug 18, 2015

Thank you all so much for your kind donations! My students were really excited when they that they received their own rekenrek board! They love that they can manipulate the beads to get a better grasp on number sense and place value.

Anytime we get out our bead boards (as we call them) they are so excited! It has helped some of my struggling math students understand the number of tens and ones in a number while also showing me the higher level of thinking in some of my advanced students! They have become bead magicians!

Again, thanks you so much for your donations! You are helping out in our little corner of the world!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reed

  • It's Not All Fun & Games...It's Engagement!

    Funded Nov 14, 2014

As soon as I told my kids that they would soon have new games to play on the computer they were excited! When I told them that they wouldn't freeze up (or run incredibly slow like our current internet) they were cheering!

The games that I purchased (with YOUR help!) are perfect for my wide range of students. I have games that are helping my struggling readers practice sight words and blending simple words. My more independent readers can practice more difficult vowel patterns and harder sight words.

The math games are also a huge hit! Rather than worrying about the computer having issues, they can focus on improving their fact fluency!

My students were beyond grateful and I am too! Thank you so much for your generosity!”

  • Teaching With Tablets

    Funded Sep 4, 2013

Thank you all so much for your kind donations! My students were beyond thrilled when they heard that they received two tablets. They love that they can use technology that they see teachers, their parents, and other adults using. They feel so 20th century!

My students are able to use these two tablets during independent reading centers to access sites like starfall and spellingcity. They also are able to use various reading apps to practice sight words and spelling words as well as listen to stories. My students also like to write with their fingers to practice their handwriting. It just doesn't seem as boring ; ) My students also use several different apps to practice their math facts.

Again, thanks you so much for your donations! You are helping out in our little corner of the world!”

  • Morning Meeting

    Funded Apr 20, 2012

Thank you all again so much for your generous donation! I have LOVED having the new easel in my classroom to conduct morning message as well as everyday lessons. I am able to move it around the room as needed and it has ample storage to keep books, markers, flash cards, and other things I use on a daily basis. Having new markers also has been a huge help! I am able to create visually appealing and accurate teaching charts!!

The class set of binders have also been awesome! We use these often and they are great for teaching organizational skills.

Thanks again for your support of my classroom and students.”

  • Can You Hear Me Now?

    Funded Feb 5, 2012

Thank you all again so much for your generous donation! Your gift to our classroom means so much to me as well as my students. Many of my students do not get to experience the feeling of gifts very often and it is wonderful to see their joy.

With your donation, my students received new headphones! These headphones were put to use as soon as we received them! We used them at our classroom computers as well as at our listening station. The best part of the headphones were the microphones! We used the headphones for normal listening the most but we also got to use the microphones for recording! My students were able to record stories they wrote, which they loved. They also were able to record themselves reading to help improve their fluency.

Thank you all so much and I hope you enjoyed the feeling of donating as much as my students did as receiving :)”

  • Games for 1st Grade Brains!

    Funded Sep 17, 2011

Thank you all so much for your generous donations! My students were beyond thrilled when they received their packages in the mail! During reading stations my students now have a wide variety of games to choose from. These games were very easy to integrate into the daily routine. The games are also right at their level so they are able to play independently, giving me more time with my small reading groups.

The math games were an even bigger hit! My students sit in groups during the day, so I can very easily pass various games out at the end of the day if they have earned some 'free' time! They are games but the kids are also using their brains!

Thank you all so much for your kind donation!”

    With gratitude,

  • Watch Me Grow!

    Funded Jul 25, 2011

Thank you all again so much for you generous donation! With our webcam we have been able to view Owen, our Russian Tortoise, online during breaks. The kids are excited about the upcoming winter break so they can watch him for those two weeks.

In addition to the original purpose of the webcam, we have used our webcam to meet our penpals from another school! The kids already were excited about having pen pals but when they learned that they would get to meet them through Skype they were even more excited! Actually meeting them was also exciting!

Thank you all again for your generosity, especially during these hard times!”

  • Seeing Is Believing!

    Funded Oct 17, 2010

Thank you all again so much! We received our document camera last fall and have been using it ever since! The students love being able to share their work on the "big screen!" It gives them a sense of pride that their work is there for everyone to see. It makes them feel so special to be the model.

I also love having the document camera! I use it almost daily to show work they we are doing together. I have some children that may fall behind or lose where we are but they can look at the screen to stay on track! No more wasted time trying to show individuals where we are!

It is so great that you could share with my children and they really appreciate it as do I! Thanks again for your generosity!”

    Mrs. Reed

  • Climbing Mountains and Creating a Buzz!

    Funded Jul 29, 2010

Thank you all again for the generous donations to my classroom! My students were so thankful to see their new materials when they arrived. Writing thank you letters has never been so easy either!

The Mountain Math and Mountain Language centers were put to use as soon as I received the boxes. My high ability students were desperately in need of stations that gave them a challenge! I look forward to moving them from the 1st grade set to the 2nd grade set soon!

The Buzz Book and After the Buzz book are also great for Writer's Workshop. Many of my students love having free write days but there are also some students that need ideas about what to write and the Buzz Book does just that!

Thank you again for your donation! My students work so hard and love coming to school every day that I don't want to fall short just because of lack of resources!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reed

I teach 1st grade in a low-income, high-need elementary school. I love teaching, especially in a diverse school with high-need children. It is exciting to be given the chance to teach a child to read and write as well as provide a spark for continuous learning.
