Literacy Station Fun in First
Funded Dec 20, 2015Thank you very much for your generous donation of a listening station to my classroom. The students in my class were very excited to have the opportunity to listen to stories read aloud during stations. Being able to listen to a story gives my young learners the chance to hear stories read with inflection and emotion in the reader's voice. They can not only read along but also hear how it sounds to read fluently.
My students are learning to stop at periods, pause at commas, and read with excitement or questions in their voice. It is very important for them to hear how fluent readers sound.
Many of my students have not had the opportunity to have stories read to them as small children. Having a listening station allows them to enjoy a story while the teacher is working with a small group. Many of my below level students love having a story read aloud to them so they can take a test on the story after hearing it read.”

Funded Sep 30, 2015Thank you so much for the donations to my classroom. The new charging station has been very helpful for my students. Having a place to store our class iPads, has helped my students learn to be responsible with their things. They are happy to place them in the designated spot and plug them in so they are ready for the next group. The students love having charged iPads ready to go instead of waiting to charge them and missing a turn with their favorite learning tool.
Thank you again for supporting my young learners as they learn to be responsible, respectful, and ready to learn!”

Funded Mar 3, 2015Words cannot fully express how grateful I am for the opportunity to go to the National First Grade Teachers Convention this summer. Without Donors Choose and your support, I would not have had the chance to spend a week learning how to improve my teaching. The sessions were outstanding and the speakers were amazing! This workshop provided ideas to improve teaching in our changing culture and environment. There were sessions on technology, improving reading and math skills, testing prep, and building community. The sessions were relevant to teachers today.
I was so excited to get back to school and put all the things I learned into practice. I am already implementing techniques and strategies in my classroom. My students will benefit from this conference for years to come.
I wish all teachers could have the opportunity to attend a workshop of this quality. I cannot thank you enough for this opportunity!”

Funded Apr 7, 2015I am humbled by your collective generosity. The possibilities that you have provided for my students are truly exciting! If it were not for your help, these students would not have had the opportunity to learn about money and financial literacy in a hands-on and fun way.
My students were excited to see and play with the money and games. They couldn't wait to put their money knowledge to work spending and saving to buy items from our rewards center. These fun and age appropriate money activities helped this years students to learn about money and how to manage it.
I know that they enjoyed learning about cash and how to save it for future purchases. Thank you for giving my current and future students additional tools that they can use to be successful in their lives!”

Super Science and Social Studies Stations for Firsties
Funded Oct 5, 2014Thank you so much for the science supplies. My students were so excited when the boxes arrived in our classroom. They were ready to get started right away.
My students have used the journals to record the results of their observations and experiments. They have learned about plants and how they grow best. They designed their own experiments, placing plants outside, inside, in a closet and in the refrigerator, logged results and found conclusions. They have used the other materials to learn about animal habitats and how magnets work. They have recorded the temperature and compared it. They have used maps to compare weather and seasons.
My young students learn best in a hands on way. The science and social studies materials that you provided my class with have allowed my students to become actively engaged learners. They consider themselves scientists.
Thank you again for providing quality materials for my students!”

Funded Aug 28, 2014Thank you very much for your generous donations to my classroom. The students were delighted when the Play-Doh and tools came in the mail. They couldn't wait to get started working with them. They went right to work making letters, spelling words, sight words, and of course the Play-Doh favorite, snake! Play-Doh is the favorite station during center time and free choice.
I love that my students ask to practice spelling words using Play-Doh!
Without your donations I would not have been able to get Play-Doh and tools for the students to use all year long.
Thank you again for helping my students love to learn!”

Funded May 22, 2014Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom. I am very excited to have an iPad for my students to use. There are many great reading, phonics, comprehension, and math games that will get my students excited about learning.
My students were thrilled when the iPad came in the mail. They couldn't wait to get started using it. They love being able to play and learn.
Most of them do not have the Internet in their home. It is very important that they become computer literate in today's society. Being able to learn to use the iPad this year will help them for years to come. They can play and have fun while learning valuable skills and improving their reading fluency. Thank you so much for helping my students get this boost they need so much. Your gift will help classes get excited about learning for years to come.”

100th Day of School!
Funded Jan 7, 2014My students were so excited to see all the great activities set up for the 100th day of school celebration. Without the generous support of donors like you we would not have been able to have all these great activities. I was able to have a parent volunteer come up and spend the day helping students count 100 beads and string them to make necklaces. It was a great opportunity for student to practice both counting and fine motor skills. Students made crowns and glasses with 100 sequins, buttons, and stickers. They were able to write about what they would do with $100 with partners as they practiced pre-writing, writing, editing, and presenting. Students made 100 cents using pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. They read and made their own books about the 100th day. They had the chance to be creative as they learned and had fun. The day was a huge success and the supplies will be used until the end of the year and again next year.
Thank you so much for supporting my project and Donors Choose.”

Funded Oct 8, 2013The students in my class were so excited when the boxes of supplies began to be delivered to our class. They couldn't wait to see what we had gotten. When I explained they were supplies to help them become better writers they couldn't wait to get started. They have written fiction and non-fiction stories about spiders, bats and how to be helpful. They are working on turkey stories now.
They love the small dry erase boards. They use these almost daily for pre-writing. We used the pocket chart for displaying poetry and practiced writing poems and highlighted rhyming words. These are just a few of their favorite activities.
My students were so excited and grateful that someone would mail them all these neat things to improve their writing. They were motivated to get started right away so they could start a hallway display of their writing. Thank you so much for motivating my students toward success.”

Mrs. Robinson
