The Best Seat in the Room!
Funded May 28, 2020Thank you so much, again, for your support of my students. We are so excited to have more flexible seating options available in our classroom. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, my students have not been able to use these stools just yet. Our school started the year virtual, and we are not sure when students will be returning for in person instruction at this time.
Though we haven't been able to use the stools yet this year, my students got to watch me open some of the boxes live on Zoom. They were ecstatic, and already started calling dibs on who would get to use the stools first.
I cannot say thank you enough. Just the thought of these stools has really brightened my students' day, and gives them something to look forward to when we return.”

Scrumdiddlyumptious Book Projects
Funded Aug 16, 2016Dear Donors,
Once again, thank you so much for the donations to my classroom. My students were so thrilled to read books by Roald Dahl. With your donations were were able to read 4 books and complete Interactive Literature Circles. Literature Circles are a great way to get students to not only think more about what they are reading, but talk about it!
I had two groups for each of the 4 books you all donated. Each group consisted of 3 to 4 students, and every week these students had different jobs. Jobs included Discussion Director, Character Sketcher, Passage Picker, and Word Wizard. Discussion Directors came up with thoughtful questions while they were reading and got their groups talking. Character Sketchers drew a character, wrote traits of the character, and problems/solutions they faced. Passage Pickers selected various passages in the books they found interesting, important, or didn't understand. These passages were another way to get students talking. Finally, Word Wizards had to find words they didn't understand and define them. At the end of the week, the Word Wizards would teach these words to their groups and all the other students would present their jobs.
These Literature Circles were a lot of work, but my students never once shied away from it! They embraced the challenge and the results were wonderful. Of all the jobs, I think Character Sketcher and Passage Picker were their favorites. Overall, this was a wonderful project and my students enjoyed completing it. We can't wait to start the next one!”
With gratitude,
