From Music Class to Maestros: Ukuleles Are Where to Start!
Funded Aug 29, 2017Do you remember the first time you made music in school? Music that you were truly proud of, that you shared, & that sparked a desire to continue learning & growing musically? Imagine if you were given the tools to continue. Imagine how your life would be different & the difference that would've been made. YOU have made THAT difference to many excited and eager new musicians.
Our school is primarily rural and many of our students do not experience much music outside of the school setting, though they are hungry to learn and eager to try new things. Because of you, our students have been given the starting tools for musical experiences in their primary years. Because of you, they will be much more likely to continue a lifelong musical pursuit.
Music IS science, math, language arts, history, physical movement, and of course, art. Those who study an instrument benefit socially, academically, emotionally, psychologically, & of course, musically. You have given ALL of these opportunities to our ukulele students! Ours is a high-poverty school with over 50% of our students qualifying, which means that musical instruments aren't a priority because they are a want, not a need. If I could've recorded the reaction of some of these students your heart would simultaneously melt and fill with joy! When handing them their brand new ukulele, one would think I had handed them the keys to the kingdom! YOU did that. By providing each student with a ukulele, you have given them an opportunity to excel! From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful.”
With gratitude,
Ms. White
